EOTO: Alternative Media

Alternative media is any form of media that is not related to mainstream media. For example, street art can be looked at as a form of alternative media. This type of media is supposed to indulge your mind to think about controversial topics and different outlooks on situations. This media is utilized by citizen journalists who want to express their opinions on something mainstream media does not cover. 

Banksy is a very famous street artist. He is able to turn traditional approaches upside-down and raise essential questions about the nature of art. He takes on many different topics through his paintings and stencils. His art is able to leave a long-lasting impression on those able to see it or photograph it before it is taken down. Art is a wonderful way to express deeper opinions that words can not cover. That is one of the reasons I love looking at street art. It can make you think very differently and is also just something absolutely beautiful to look at. 

Although street art is a major form of alternative media it comes in many other forms such as; press, music, videos, and poems. Underground newspapers are very popular with alternative media. They publish things that mainstream media may not. South front is an organization that is 100% funded by its readers and supporters. They provide daily updates about the war in Syria that corporate news would rather not want people to know. 

Alternative media gives a voice to many people and is often used for activism. It is a great way to spread a powerful message through different forms. In today's society, most alternative media is seen on a blog post or a website. It is used to help persuade people to change their opinion. It is vital to read and look at many different opinions before forming your own. In addition, alternative media gives you the ability to look at something that is not mainstream and covered by big companies. On the other hand, alternative media is not always seen as credible. This is due to the fact that the majority of alternative media is opinion-based. Despite this, I think it is very beneficial to look at alternative media. It can spark a new way of thinking through something other than just a news article.
